Hi,
my system does not boot any longer. I'm running Gentoo on PowerMac G4 with genkernel compiled 2.6.10-gentoo-r6. Last time it worked perfectly after some kernel problems I posted here https://forums.gentoo.org/viewtopic-t-340017-highlight-bjosch.html. I remember two things I changed after this:
1. I worked on my scanner with partial success (works only as root, as reported here: https://forums.gentoo.org/viewtopic-p-2443267-highlight-.html#2443267)
2. I installed ivman, it compiled fine, no error messages, I followed the instructions of this manual: http://gentoo-wiki.com/HOWTO_ivman
Actually it did not seem to work well, but I thought to give it another try or glance now when the kernel halted before filling up even a single screen. I copied manually the part where the error messages started:
Code:
radeonfb: ATI Radeon If DDR SGRAM 64 MB
kobject_register failed for radeonfb (-17)
Call trace:
[c0131fa0] kobject_register+0x60/0x78
[c01b6a48] bus_add_driver+0x78/0x184
[c01b7178] driver_register+0x38/0x48
[c013d62c] pci_register_driver+0x78/0xcc
[c03c6c88] radeonfb_old_init+0x44/0x54
[c00041a8] init+0x360/0x538
[c0007100] kernel_thread+0x44/0x60
isapnp: Scanning for PnP cards...
isapnp: No Plug & Play device found
Serial: 8250/16550 driver $ Revision 1.90 $ 6 ports, IRQ sharing disabled

Then the system halts and I have to reboot (cold restart, Ctrl+AltGr+Del does not work!).

I hope I copied everything correct. I'm not sure if this is the right Forum, but as the problem is loading the kernel, maybe someone can give me a hint how to get the system work again. If you need other information, let me know.

Please edit your thread title to use normal capitalization. POSTING IN ALL CAPS IS HIGHLY ANNOYING AND HARDER TO READ, AS THIS SENTENCE HOPEFULLY ILLUSTRATES.

Moved from Kernel & Hardware to Gentoo on PPC.

I remember that I did a new ybin -v, but anyway after a problem caused by the known issues after a QuickTime update in MacOS X I did another ybin -v from within the Debian environment and it works again. I get some error messages about hotplug but I could not read them well, yet and with dmsg they did not appear again. We'll see, maybe for another post.
