Greetings,
I recently aquired a Dual 2.5ghz G5, w/ a radeon 9600, and 20" apple cinema display (the newer one).
X builds fine, but when starting (both 6.8.2r1, and r2) the monitor goes to sleep and locks the box entirely.
xorg.conf matches the hardware and I have foung several people running similar boxes fine w/ nvidia cards,
but no ati.
Does anyone have a similar configuration running X and if so which version?
Thanks,
Mike

After a little more googling and a lot of trial and error I have it working on xorg 6.8.2-r2.
Here are the needed lines in the xorg.conf over and above the[/code] default:

Section "Monitor"
...
Modes "Modes0"
DisplaySize 360 270
Option "DPMS"
HorizSync 31.5-130
VertRefresh 60
Option "MonitorLayout" "TMDS,CRT"
EndSection

Section "Modes"
Identifier "Modes0"
Modeline "1680x1050" 119.005 1680 1728 1760 1840 1050 1053 1059 1080 -HSync +VSync
EndSection

Section "Device"
...
Option "ConnectedMonitor" "DFP"
EndSection

If you don't already have fbset installed, do that and run 'fbset -x'....just copy that info over and you're display will look even better. :-) I've found that fbset always gives me the perfect config for Xorg.

I have a similar setup except the box
is a dp 1.8 with 20" apple cinema display.
With 6.8.2-r2 I the display tries to
open then returns to console with error
message:
(EE) Failed to load module "ati" (module does not exist, 0)
Also a check of /var/log gives the
same message without any other EE.
Is this a problem I can try to fix, say
a kernel issue, or do I just need to
wait for a newer xorg and try again?
