Hello.

I am trying to set essid and powermanagement for the Airport device in the file net.eth1.
Before I set it by my own rc script with iwconfig, which worked.
But settings in net.eth1 don't. Is it possible that airport doesn't support settings in this file? There also should be just iwconfig used..
I questioned also here

They just updated all the config files, so you'll want to enter your wireless settings in the file /etc/conf.d/wireless. There should be a file in that directory called wireless.example to help you along, it has really good instructions.

So instead of using iwconfig from within /etc/init.d/net-eth1 (or whatever), just put the info in /etc/conf.d/wirless. You'll still need a /etc/init.d/net.eth1, but it can simply be a symlink to /etc/init.d/net-lo.

It's a lot cleaner this way, but I have to say that I was not pleased when seeing that etc-update gave me a list of some thirty files that had to be updated, many involving merges, including my /etc/init.d/net-eth1, which was a real pain to get right.

Good luck.
