When installing Gentoo on my VIA Epia system it fails when compiling glibc. Apparently the file '/etc/env.d/gcc/i386-pc-linux-gnu-3.3.5 ' is missing. I hope I can get some help with this, since I have no idea how I can solve this problem. My CHOST is set to "i686-pc-linux-gnu" and these files exist:
Quote:
livecd gcc # ls /etc/env.d/gcc/
config i686-pc-linux-gnu-3.3.5-20050130-hardened i686-pc-linux-gnu-3.3.5-20050130-hardenednossp
config-i686-pc-linux-gnu i686-pc-linux-gnu-3.3.5-20050130-hardenednopie
i686-pc-linux-gnu-3.3.5-20050130 i686-pc-linux-gnu-3.3.5-20050130-hardenednopiessp

Edit: This line might be the reason why it is looking for i386: "checking for i686-pc-linux-gnu-gcc... no"

Just tried the following:
Quote:
livecd / # gcc-config -l
/usr/bin/gcc-config: line 1: /etc/env.d/gcc/i386-pc-linux-gnu-3.3.5: No such file or directory
* /usr/bin/gcc-config: Profile does not exist or invalid setting for /etc/env.d/gcc/i386-pc-linux-gnu-3.3.5
[1] i686-pc-linux-gnu-3.3.5-20050130
[2] i686-pc-linux-gnu-3.3.5-20050130-hardened
[3] i686-pc-linux-gnu-3.3.5-20050130-hardenednopie
[4] i686-pc-linux-gnu-3.3.5-20050130-hardenednopiessp
[5] i686-pc-linux-gnu-3.3.5-20050130-hardenednossp
livecd / # gcc-config 1
* Switching to i686-pc-linux-gnu-3.3.5-20050130 compiler... [ ok ]

* If you intend to use the gcc from the new profile in an already
* running shell, please remember to do:

* # source /etc/profile

livecd / # gcc-config -l
[1] i686-pc-linux-gnu-3.3.5-20050130 *
[2] i686-pc-linux-gnu-3.3.5-20050130-hardened
[3] i686-pc-linux-gnu-3.3.5-20050130-hardenednopie
[4] i686-pc-linux-gnu-3.3.5-20050130-hardenednopiessp
[5] i686-pc-linux-gnu-3.3.5-20050130-hardenednossp
livecd / #

It seems to work, but since this is not in the installation manual I assume you normally don't have to do this. Can this indicate that something went wrong?

Hi Xerxes83,

same problem here, try following:
Code:

gcc-config -l

As you can see, there is an error with i386-pc-linux-gnu-3.3.5.
Next try this, if '1' is i686-pc-linux-gnu-3.3.5*:

Code:

gcc-config 1

Afterwards start scripts/bootstrap.sh again.

Greetings

Edit: Maybe 2 minutes to slow :D :D :D
