I've started to assume that lack of gamepad support for snes9x is just a ppc problem. But first I wanted to make sure it wasn't just me.

Does anyone not get snes9x errors when you run something like

snes9x -joymap1 1 2 0 3 6 7 9 8 romname.smc

in this circumstance the game works when i rrmove the joymap option. snes9x also fails with -joydev1 /dev/js0.

I'll post this in the gaming forum also.

thanks

Did you make sure that the joystick use flag was on?

Edit: Didn't realize this problem was solved. What exactly is the use joy flag that you guys were talking about? I'd like to be able to use a joypad with my snes9x too :)
Thanks

Have a lock at the use flags of snes9x:

Code:
# emerge -vp snes9x

These are the packages that I would merge, in order:

Calculating dependencies ...done!
[ebuild  N    ] games-emulation/snes9x-1.43-r1  +X -debug -dga -joystick +opengl +zlib 992 kB

Add the joystick use flag to /etc/make.conf or do a

Code:
# USE="joystick" emerge snes9x

This useflag enabled joystick support for snes9x!

Have fun! :-)

Christopher

Edit: You will maybe need to enable joystick support in the kernel too to use it.

Wow, thanks very much! I guess it has something to do with the -v option in emerge? I never knew you could do that, thanks a bunch! :)

I am pretty happy with my Logitech WinMan RumblePad (USB). It worked out of the box on my Linux system with snes9x/zsnes (x86 though - but I expect it to work on my PB as well).

Most USB Input devices (including joysticks) are HID devices, as long as you have HID support in your kernel, they just work.

If you run snes9express (a snes9x front end), it has a tab for Controllers, and then a button that says 'configure button maps'...

If you just run snes9x from the command line, I think you'll have to use the "-joymap" option...
