Totem gives me this on startup:

Code:
** (totem:15163): WARNING **: No GConf default audio sink key and osssink doesn'
t work
** Message: failed to render default audio sink from gconf

And Rhythmbox this on play:

Code:
** (rhythmbox:21156): WARNING **: No GConf default audio sink key and osssink doesn't work
Got error opening "blabla.mp3": Could not create audio output element; check your settings

I don't seem to have a /dev/dsp, could that be it? Works fine with xmms/mplayer though

I'm using merged alsa-drivers, and lsmod gives this:

Code:
$ lsmod | grep snd
snd_seq_midi            7712  0
snd_emu10k1_synth       7808  0
snd_emux_synth         34432  1 snd_emu10k1_synth

snd_seq_device          8332  5 snd_seq_midi,snd_emu10k1_synth,snd_seq,snd_emu10k1,snd_rawmidi

snd_timer              22788  3 snd_seq,snd_emu10k1,snd_pcm
snd_page_alloc          8836  2 snd_emu10k1,snd_pcm
snd_util_mem            4480  2 snd_emux_synth,snd_emu10k1

Any suggestions?

Edit: When running alsaconf again, I get those errors:

don't use alsaconf.

what does your /etc/modules.d/alsa say?

fix it as appropriate for your card and (re)run update-modules.

also then fix up the permissions since udev or pam or someone screws them up. tee-hee

Code:
#!/bin/bash
chown -R root:audio /dev/snd*
chown -R root:audio /dev/sound*
chmod -R 660 /dev/snd/*
chmod -R 660 /dev/sound/*

works for me.

(make sure user is in audio group for the above to work)

Change the values in gconf (system/gstreamer) to alsasink/alsasrc instead of osssink/alsasrc, or you're going to need to emerge alsa-oss as well.

My /etc/modules.d/alsa:
Code:
# --- BEGIN: Generated by ALSACONF, do not edit. ---
# --- ALSACONF verion 1.0.8 ---
alias snd-card-0 snd-emu10k1
alias sound-slot-0 snd-emu10k1
# --- END: Generated by ALSACONF, do not edit. ---

I get the same errors with super-user.

How do i do that? I've got alsa-oss merged btw.

Edit: I now have a /dev/dsp and a /dev/dsp2 :?

Edit2: Nevermind, I figured it out, working now. Thanks a LOT for helping!

Moved from Multimedia to Duplicate Threads in favour of "No GConf default audio sink key and osssink doesn't work".
