Now that I have my PowerMac booting and even Enlightenment 0.17 going, it's time to consider where to go from here. I'm planning on making this my main server ( slow as it is ), as my POS Celeron 333 is dying.

Anyway, I've read a number of posts warning that reiserfs ( 3 ) is unstable on PPC. But then I've also read a number of posts from people replying to these posts saying that in their experience, reiserfs has been rock solid. So which is it? I would *really* like to use reiserfs - I've been using it since it was a ( supposedly unstable ) patch to 2.4.18 or something like that, and it outperforms ext2 / ext3 by a long shot.

Who has some user storied to scare me out of building my server on a reiserfs system?

Well, performance isn't that much better especially if you turn on directory indexing on ext3. Personally, I've never had reiserfs be very stable for me, I always eventually end up with corrupted data, but I do know other devs that run it with no problems. So, your milage may vary. :) For a compromise, you could try XFS, it's stable and pretty fast as well.

I run reiserfs (not reiser4) on all my systems, including my iBook G4. I've never had any data corruption, and am quite pleased with the speed.

I believe the corruption was a bug in a 2.4.x series kernel... bit my ass hard several times. These days it is likely pretty stable.

I also have been running reiserfs on my TiBook for over two years and can not say it as been the cause of any problems.
