I seem to have buggered something on my 2005.0 ppc installation (running a ppc64 kernel). Some packages install fine, while others are reporting strange missing symbols in libraries. I figured this was a gcc-config or fix_libtools scenerio, but can't figure the right incantation to fix things. Here's the sort of errors I'm getting (for instance emerge -u aspell):

/bin/sh ../libtool --mode=link powerpc-unknown-linux-gnu-gcc -O3 -maltivec -mabi=altivec -mtune=power4 -fno-strict-aliasing -pipe -mpowerpc-gfxopt -O2 -fsigned-char -lgpm -o list-dicts list-dicts.o ../lib/libaspell.la
/bin/sh ../libtool --mode=link powerpc-unknown-linux-gnu-gcc -O3 -maltivec -mabi=altivec -mtune=power4 -fno-strict-aliasing -pipe -mpowerpc-gfxopt -O2 -fsigned-char -lgpm -o example-c example-c.o ../lib/libaspell.la
mkdir .libs
powerpc-unknown-linux-gnu-gcc -O3 -maltivec -mabi=altivec -mtune=power4 -fno-strict-aliasing -pipe -mpowerpc-gfxopt -O2 -fsigned-char -o .libs/list-dicts list-dicts.o -lgpm ../lib/.libs/libaspell.so

../lib/.libs/libaspell.so: undefined reference to `std::basic_string<char, std::char_traits<char>, std::allocator<char> >::basic_string(std::basic_string<char, std::char_traits<char>, std::allocator<char> > const&, unsigned int, unsigned int)@GLIBCXX_3.4'
../lib/.libs/libaspell.so: undefined reference to `std::_List_node_base::swap(std::_List_node_base&, std::_List_node_base&)@GLIBCXX_3.4'
../lib/.libs/libaspell.so: undefined reference to `std::basic_string<char, std::char_traits<char>, std::allocator<char> >::append(char const*, unsigned int)@GLIBCXX_3.4'

../lib/.libs/libaspell.so: undefined reference to `std::_List_node_base::transfer(std::_List_node_base*, std::_List_node_base*)@GLIBCXX_3.4'
../lib/.libs/libaspell.so: undefined reference to `std::istrstream::istrstream(char const*)@GLIBCXX_3.4'
../lib/.libs/libaspell.so: undefined reference to `operator delete(void*)@GLIBCXX_3.4'
../lib/.libs/libaspell.so: undefined reference to `std::basic_string<char, std::char_traits<char>, std::allocator<char> >::~basic_string()@GLIBCXX_3.4'
../lib/.libs/libaspell.so: undefined reference to `std::basic_string<char, std::char_traits<char>, std::allocator<char> >::rfind(char, unsigned int) const@GLIBCXX_3.4'

[etc...etc...etc...]

Any suggestions on how to recover from this state without having to install from scratch welcome.

Thanks,
-eric

Well, two things to try:

1. Make sure you didn't emerge gcc with the nocxx USE flag on.
2. Try re-emerging libstdc++-v3

Good luck!
