alsa-driver is emergable. And... you know... exact model numbers matter. As do chipsets. And it's probably included in the kernel anyway. But as long as you don't provide the exact model number noone can help you. Realtek makes a whole lot of things...

Take your mobo number, go to the manufacturers site and look at the specifications. Not all AC97 drivers are the same. You need the exact model numbers for everything to work (or you can rely on luck).

I always thougth that the AC'97 support in the kernel was generic. I'm acutally configuring a system as I'm writing this, so this thread is of interest.

Why are you manualy compiling stuff when all you have to do is to emerge things?

Rutski89: might be... I never used the ac97 stuff... S/PDIF rocks :P

I'm totally clueless about what your talking about. I take it there are .ko source files that we are talking about emerging. All I ever had to do was put a '*' next to AC'97 in my kernels menuconfig and my sound just worked.

We're talking about emerging the alsa-driver (which is, imho, pointless... since there's AC97 stuff in the kernel).
