when making an "emerge sync" i get a couple of error messages (the rest of the emerge seems to be ok):
Code:
>>> Updating Portage cache:   78%
Failed cache update: net-print/cups-1.1.23-r2 "Corruption detected when reading key 'cups-1.1.23-r2': Key count mistmatch"

Failed cache update: net-print/cups-1.1.23-r3 "Corruption detected when reading key 'cups-1.1.23-r3': Key count mistmatch"

Failed cache update: net-print/cups-1.1.23-r4 "Corruption detected when reading key 'cups-1.1.23-r4': Key count mistmatch"

Failed cache update: net-print/foo2zjs-20050319 "Corruption detected when reading key 'foo2zjs-20050319': Key count mistmatch"

Failed cache update: net-print/lprng-3.8.27-r1 "Corruption detected when reading key 'lprng-3.8.27-r1': Key count mistmatch"

Failed cache update: net-print/lprng-3.8.27-r2 "Corruption detected when reading key 'lprng-3.8.27-r2': Key count mistmatch"
100%

its most probably a disk error. how can i bring the portage system back to normal?

Try this to see if it fixes the problem:
Code:
emerge --metadata

The portage man page says it "rebuilds the metacache" which might be the cause of your error...

Thank you, performing this reproduces exactly the same error messages (after 78% ok).

that did it

(from the last posting of the suggested thread:)

Code:
root@tigger ~ # cd /usr/portage/metadata/
root@tigger /usr/portage/metadata # mv cache cache-corrupt
root@tigger /usr/portage/metadata # cd
root@tigger ~ # emerge sync

the "cache-corrupt" dir will be removed with contents and a new cache will be installed.
