I tried :
http://www.popies.net/atp/
after reading this post:
https://forums.gentoo.org/viewtopic-t-344976.html?sid=2a0d9e7e9537ddeb838658b27ccd001e
But I get this message:
Code:
make -C /lib/modules/2.6.10-gentoo-r8/build SUBDIRS=/tmp/atp-0.05 modules
make[1]: Entering directory `/usr/src/linux-2.6.10-gentoo-r8'

/tmp/atp-0.05/atp.c:469: warning: function declaration isn't a prototype
/tmp/atp-0.05/atp.c: In function `atp_suspend':
/tmp/atp-0.05/atp.c:470: error: `iface' undeclared (first use in this function)
/tmp/atp-0.05/atp.c:470: error: (Each undeclared identifier is reported only once
/tmp/atp-0.05/atp.c:470: error: for each function it appears in.)
make[2]: *** [/tmp/atp-0.05/atp.o] Error 1
make[1]: *** [_module_/tmp/atp-0.05] Error 2
make[1]: Leaving directory `/usr/src/linux-2.6.10-gentoo-r8'
make: *** [default] Error 2

Do I have to unmask synaptics to install it or what?

I think you might need a 2.6.11+ kernel to use the atp driver.

right, I'm using 2.6.10-gentoo-r8

Is there anything to emerge to get such a kernel, or do I need to go and get it on kernel.org??

You just need to emerge sync and then emerge a ~ppc kernel. The easiest way to do this on a one off basis is to
Code:
ACCEPT_KEYWORDS="~ppc" emerge gentoo-sources
. Then of course you'll need to change the symlink and copy your .config across and make oldconfig etc etc.
