Hi, ALL,
I have a little problem.
I am trying to install Gentoo 2005.0 on the RAID disk.
I used fdisk to break my 2 disks into the 5 partitions. Now following the documentation I created a file /etc/raidtab that looks like this:

Code:

raiddev /dev/md0
        raid-level      linear
        nr-raid-disks   2
        chunk-size      32
        persistent-superblock 1
        device          /dev/sdb6
        raid-disk       0
        device          /dev/sdc5
        raid-disk       1

Following the instructions< I tried to run the command 'mkradi /dev/md0, which gave me a following result:

"cannot determine md version: no MD device file in /dev"

When I looked in the RIAD documentaion, I found another way, but it didn't work out either.

Code:

mdadm --create --verbose /dev/md0 --level=linear --raid-devices=2 /dev/hda3 /dev/hdb2
mdadm: error opening /dev/md0: no such file or directory

is RAID instruction for Gentoo is wrong or the RAID documentation is incorrect? They both saying that I have to create a file in "/etc" directory.....

Thank you in advance.

From the HOWTO Gentoo Install on Software RAID

Quote:

Note* If you receive an error of:

cannot determine md version: no MD device file in /dev

then do this and try again:

cd /dev ; MAKEDEV md

That command will take care of creating all necessary /dev/md* files. Now, try again to run "mkraid" for each raiddev device. If for some reason you have restart your installation then attempt using the raidstart command to activate your raid array.
