The PPC team had a meeting on July, 31st, the topics discussed were:

1. The 2005.1 release
2. The trouble with glibc-2.3.5
3. Documentation Update
4. AT Program
5. AE support?
6. PPC64 Report
7. Open Floor

Gentoo-PPC Meeting Topic Summary, July 31st 2005

1. Preparing for the 2005.1 Release

Pylon has finished with the release building and everything should be all set.
Here's to a great 2005.1 release!

2. The trouble with glibc-2.3.5

There has been no major progress with the combination of nptl and -nptlonly on
PPC. morfic has tried newer snapshots without much luck. A workaround to
prevent glibc being built for nptl and -nptlonly was added to the glibc
ebuild. If anyone would like to help out with this problem, please let us
know.

3. Documentation

The 2005.1 'static' documentation has been updated for 2005.1. The 'live'
documentation will be completed on release of 2005.1. If anyone has any
additional changes they would like made, or changes to the team website,
please let JoseJX know.

4. AT Program

We've got two more people who are considering becoming ATs, hopefully we'll
get the process started soon. We discussed the huge list of packages that
need to be checked and agreed that it would be good to inform users how to
better report packages that should be marked stable/testing. Dertobi123
agreed to write up an arch agnostic set of directions for users.

5. AE Support?

While work continues on the native Airport Extreme (AE) driver, JoseJX has
added the PCI proxy patch to MOL and written a small script to patch the AE
driver in OSX to allow the AE to be used from Linux! Further instructions
will be avaiable soon, but this is a nice work around for those that would
like to use their wireless cards in Linux. The patch script is available
here: http://dev.gentoo.org/~josejx/aepatch

6. PPC64 Report

The PPC64 release overcame a number of chanllenges to create the finished
product, but everything seems to have gone well. PPC64 now has suport for
32 bit profiles on 64 bit kernels and 64 bit profiles on 64 bit kernels.
Multilib support for mixed 32bit/64bit systems is still being worked on.
Here's to a great 2005.1 release!

7. Open Floor

There was discussion about who will replace Apple as a vendor for cheap PPC
boxes with some interesting rumors which we'll hear more about later.

dholm had a tip for finding the number of apps that are keyworded:
1. esearch \*|grep Masked|wc -l
2. Find the total number of packages on packages.gentoo.org
3. subtract the first from the last.

Finally, there was general agreement that this was the best (shortest) meeting
in quite some time. :)

Our next meeting is on August 28, 2005.

I'd just like to know if there is any planned discussion on the state of ppc64 development, and maybe an open discussion on what people thoughts are on it. I see a big future for this arch and haven't found to many gentooers that share my enthusiasm. None the less, I do think the devs have done an excellent job thus far; corsair (my man!) dostrow, tgall_foo (w00t) and others, thanks.
