Hi there,

The last time I 'emerge sync' was about a week ago. Since then, when I try it again I get:

wcflavio ~ # emerge sync

It seems really strange for me because it is almost a week without updates. This is happening only in my iBook G4 (ppc). With my x86 pc everything is fine. Strange things started happening after I 'synced' with a wrong date in my iBook because it usually lose the date when I turn it on and I forgot to set it up. Do you know what should I do to update my gentoo?

Best regards,

Flavio.

>>> Timestamps on the server and in the local repository are the same.
>>> Cancelling all further sync action. You are already up to date.
I'm thinking you have an emerge sync on cron right?

No. I have no emerge sync on cron:

/etc/cron.daily:
total 4
-rwxr-xr-x 1 root root 152 Jul 5 14:56 slocate

/etc/cron.hourly:
total 0

/etc/cron.monthly:
total 0

/etc/cron.weekly:
total 4
-rwxr-xr-x 1 root root 126 Jul 13 23:38 makewhatis

Is this what you mean?

Removing /usr/portage and emerge --sync will work but it's kinda last resort (nukes distfiles, which is not quite a good thing.)

See: https://forums.gentoo.org/viewtopic-t-363709.html

I would first try a different mirror. Chances are, your mirror is not up to date.

I'm having the same problem. If I delete /usr/portage and sync again, it seems to work but at the end I get:
Code:

Number of files: 121895
Number of files transferred: 1261
Total file size: 95677367 bytes
Total transferred file size: 2061667 bytes
Literal data: 2061667 bytes
Matched data: 0 bytes
File list size: 2861531
Total bytes written: 25401
Total bytes read: 3736752

wrote 25401 bytes  read 3736752 bytes  74498.08 bytes/sec
total size is 95677367  speedup is 25.43

>>> Updating Portage cache:
Traceback (most recent call last):
  File "/usr/bin/emerge", line 2705, in ?
    oldcat = portage.catsplit(cp_list[0])[0]
IndexError: list index out of range

So I'm not sure it's the right solution.

Try the default mirror (remove the "SYNC=" line from make.conf). Seems like a lot of third party mirrors are having problems over the past day or so.

The problem's discussed in this thread:

Moved from Portage & Programming to Duplicate Threads in favour of the thread JTHM mentioned.
