I have a packages cd and i want to emerge kde how do i set it to default to cd instead of the internet?

Hi.

I'm not sure, but you should use the -k or -K option with emerge. You need to copy the packages from the cd to /usr/portage/distfiles or define PORTAGE_DIR.

  1. Insert CD into drive.
  2. Type the following:
    Code:

    # mount /mnt/cdrom
    # export PKGDIR=/mnt/cdrom

    These commands will tell Portage to look for binary packages on the CD.
  3. To emerge kde from the package CD, type:
    Code:

    # emerge -K kde

kimchi_sg is right. It's PKGDIR and not PORTAGE_DIR. :oops:
