Hi,
in few days I will need to install Gentoo on my new laptop and I'd like to try ReiserFS instead of Ext3.. Apart from the differences in the way they work, will I notice other important differences (like some known problems with some tools or progs with ReiserFS) or will it be as if I had Ext3?
Perhaps it's a stupid question, but I just wanted to have your opinions :-)

What I have noticed about ReiserFS vs Ext3 is a performance increase when using ReiserFS. I have never had any problems with ReiserFS, so I'd say go for it. :)

I can't help but get into the paraphrasing mood:

Also, I choose ext3 as I do not need to emerge an extra package - reiserfstools - just for maintaining the filesystem, and the package for maintaining ext2/3 filesystems - e2fsprogs - is emerged everytime anyone does "emerge system".

well try then to copy some 1gb folder with small files on ext3 and compare the speed with ReiserFS. The difference is around 10 times - i wouldn't call that insignificant

Moved from Installing Gentoo to Duplicate Threads.
Use this thread instead: The Filesystem choice thread (was: XFS or Ext3)
