Hello all,

today I started updating my very old Gentoo installation on my iBook. emerge -avuN world was fine until x11-libs/pango-1.8.1.

During the emerge I got an glibc double free or corruption error and didn't know what to do. So I searched the fgo site and found following interesting thread:

https://forums.gentoo.org/viewtopic-t-255263.html

There somebody says that this kind of error is definitively a software error and you should use MALLOC_CHECK_=0 if you want a working application. I didn't try it, because at first I tried the following command:

Code:
FEATURES="-sandbox" emerge pango

and it worked. Do somebody know why this happens and how I can solve this problem permanently?

UPDATE: Now I try to update gtk+-2.6.7 and get the same error... strange. Could it be a hardware error?

Best regards and sorry for my english...

O.K.,

I think I have the point... before the update there was gcc-3.3.3 on my system and I forgot to do a gcc-config, so that emerge used the old gcc instead of the newer 3.4.4 version.

My solutions for this problem are

1) At first try a gcc-config, if you haven't done it
2) Try MALLOC_CHECK_=0 emerge your_package
3) If the first steps don't work, try FEATURES="-sandbox" emerge your_package

If this won't help, I don't know... I hope the problem is solved. :)
