I have a friend who needs to get online, but is stuck with old Mac hardware:

Powermac G3, 300mhz with an upgraded 400mhz CPU, 768 megs RAM, two 4 gig HD's.

I'm now looking to see if there's a nondestrutive LiveCD for PPC that has KDE and Mozilla on it. She's stuck with MacOS 9 and Netscape 4, and you all know everything needs Netscape 6, Mozilla, or Firefox. Oh, and she's stuck on dialup too, so I'll have to mail her a CD.

Mandriva is pretty easy to use as well (I've tried mandrake, which was bloated, probably not changed that much).
Problem with a beige powermac is that it has to use bootx to boot anything next to macos 9.
It's 10x harder to use than yaboot with newworld machines.
(at least it was a couple of years ago..)

You can also have a look at xpostfacto, which allows you to boot OS X on an oldworld mac.

Good luck!
