ackk.. my powerbook spits out about 3 lines of syslog-spam everytime it changes the fanspeed

Code:

adt746x: Stopping fans.
adt746x: Setting speed to 0 for CPU TOPSIDE fan.
adt746x: Setting speed to 0 for GPU ON DIE fan.

Anyone know anyways to stop this?

Change the minimum level to log, and exclude kern_debug level. KERN_DEBUG is 7 while KERN_INFO is 6.
It's probably done in /etc/metalog/metalog.conf.

thanks for the suggestion colinleroy! :-)

I'm using syslog-ng so I had to do a different configuration than metalog..
I decided to filter out all of the messages about fan speed so here is my /etc/syslog-ng/syslog-ng.conf
Code:

# $Header: /var/cvsroot/gentoo-x86/app-admin/syslog-ng/files/syslog-ng.conf.gentoo,v 1.5 2005/05/12 05:46:10 mr_bones_ Exp $
#
# Syslog-ng default configuration file for Gentoo Linux
# contributed by Michael Sterrett

options {
        chain_hostnames(off);
        sync(0);

        # The default action of syslog-ng 1.6.0 is to log a STATS line
        # to the file every 10 minutes.  That's pretty ugly after a while.
        # Change it to every 12 hours so you get a nice daily update of
        # how many messages syslog-ng missed (0).
        stats(43200);
};

source src { unix-stream("/dev/log"); internal(); pipe("/proc/kmsg"); };

destination messages { file("/var/log/messages"); };

filter f_adt {not match(adt746x);};

# By default messages are logged to tty12...
destination console_all { file("/dev/tty12"); };
# ...if you intend to use /dev/console for programs like xconsole
# you can comment out the destination line above that references /dev/tty12
# and uncomment the line below.
#destination console_all { file("/dev/console"); };

log { source(src); filter(f_adt); destination(messages); };
log { source(src); filter(f_adt); destination(console_all); };

I'm still kinda wondering if there is an option with the kernel to make this adt746x less chatty, so I won't put a solved on this just yet ;-)

Looking at the kernel source for the module reveals only two options:
Code:

module_param(limit_adjust, int, 0644);
MODULE_PARM_DESC(limit_adjust,"Adjust maximum temperatures (50 sensor1, 70 sensor2) "
                 "by N degrees.");

module_param(fan_speed, int, 0644);
MODULE_PARM_DESC(fan_speed,"Specify starting fan speed (0-255) "
                 "(default 64)");

So, it looks like the answer is no.
