Hi,

I've managed to compile the kernel ok (Quicksilver mac g4, 2*800), but I can only run with the install cd in the cd drive (eject command doesnt work either ("bin/bash eject command not found)). When I boot without the live cd in there, I get the messages:

Code:
Welcome to Linux, kernel 2.6.10-gentoo-r8-G3G4

(that may not be precise (the numbers, I mean), I'm away from the computer I installed it from), and I cant do anything. But if I boot with the CD in there (just normal startup, not with holding the C key down, as you would to boot from a CD), I can work. Is this normal? I followed the handbook precisely, but I'm abit confused. Is there anywhere in the install part of the handbook which mentions anything like this? (I couldnt see). If someones already solved this here, I apologise, but I couldnt see anything searching in the forums.

Thank you very much for your help,
regards,
Humphrey.

(p.s. nice job on the handbook, whoever wrote it, Id've benn lost without it :)

You need to have framebuffer support in your kernel, without it, the Mac can't boot.

Hi Jose,
Thanks. I thought I added frame buffer support (ehere is that in the kernel options, btw. I see virtual frame buffer support, but see also that that is Dangerous). Anyway, heres the new output at boot time Ithis happens with or without the cd in there. I'm guessing that I'm just not adding everything that I need to.

Its a little bit different each time. It also stops whe trying to load an ica2 driver. Heres my lspci:

0002:20:0f.0 Class ffff: Apple Computer Inc. UniNorth GMAC (Sun GEM) (rev ff)

Could you possibly give me some ideas as to what I need to enable in the kernel to get this going? I Already found the UniNorth AGP component under:

character devices --------->/dev/agpgart (AGP Support)-------------->Apple UniNorth AGP Support

and the network support------------>Sun GEM support

But I cant really find anything else. I've also enabled various VIA portions, but I'm not sure if there the right ones.

Any help would be very much appreciated,
regards,
Humphrey
