Hi, I'm setting up Gentoo for the first time on my Apple Powerbook G4. Due to several HOW-TOs I've seen, I've emerged pbbuttonsd, cpudynd, and pmud. I'm getting fairly familiar with pbbuttons, and it's config, but I'm not too sure how to use pmu or cpudyn. I'm most confused how they all work in tandem. From what I can tell, pbbuttons seems to do everythign that pmu and cpudyn do with some additional features. Is there any benefit to using all three? Is there any problem with using all three?

Thanks in advance for the info!

pbbuttonsd certainly does do everything that pmud does (and more).
Don't think there's really any reason to have pmud anymore...
As for cpudynd - don't know. I have it and it's running, but whether it's actually doing something useful or is just hanging around because I emerged it ages ago and forgot about it I can't tell :/

Agreed, there is no need to use pmud anymore. Pbbuttonsd is a must for any Mac laptop. Cpudyn offers functionality in addition to pbbuttonsd, and actually works well on my 1GHz Tibook (I put the CPU frequency scaling monitor on my GNOME panel, that's how I know) so I do recommend it (in parallel to pbbuttonsd of course).

I just unmerged pmud and my laptop is working great. I seem to have all the functionality I had before. Thanks for the advice!
