went well. I could not get by stage 2 on 2005.0 (some bugs in groff and perl) but 2005.1 worked well for me.

Install guide was nice and slick and I had few problems. I first had some trouble with yaboot but managed to figure that out. Then I tried to create my own kernel and failed (more or less because I am unfimiliar with the ppc hardware). I ended up using the config from /proc on the live disk tweaking it for my needs.

I have a G4 powerbook 15 inch. I have a few questions about it.

1: I have an ATI radeon 9600, should I install the drivers or use the kernels drm? Better results from one vs the other?

2: Has anyone had any luck with bluetooth and a motorola V3.. browsing the phones file system? What about using it as a modem?

3: This question is just my anal-ness but I use the Mac fonts in the kernel for my console.. and I got to tell ya they look sweet I love them however after coldplug runs my fonts turn back to normal looking linux fonts. I cant seem to figure out what is kicking this off.

*edit* to add to this a bit more it changes after Loading key mappings / Setting terminal encoding to ASCII and Setting user font during boot.

This is my first Mac and I must say I like Tiger a lot and to be able to use gentoo on it also, just rocks. Hopefully you ppc-ers can help me out and I am sure you will be hearing from me again.

What are these Mac console fonts in the kernel? How do I use them?

well 1 & 3 i figured out..

1:looks like ati-drivers wont work..

3:consolefont in my boot runlevel was kicking off the 'ugly' linux fonts.

To set that up man just enable it in your kernel and reboot..

Device Drivers --> Graphics support --> Console display driver support -->

Select Framebuffer Support and Select compiled-in fonts then Mac Console 6x11

Looks sweet you will like it.

I use ~ppc gentoo-sources

For the first point. Ati drivers are only for x86 and x86_64.
You can try emerging the latest x11-drm. I think it has experimental support for r3xx based cards.
As far as X goes, I also think you need an experimental version as well. Maybe xorg-x11-6.8.99.15.
