Hello,

I installe 2005.1 with universal install stage 3, ok installation done.
I got the Packages CD too but both Portage and emerge insist on fetching files from Intenet

I set the PORTAGE_BINHOST var to "/mnt/cdrom/All", but it worth nothing.
Tried "emerge --usepkg --getbinpkg" (don't remember the exact syntax just now, however it was correct): nothing.
How do I tell to my Portage to use the CDROM packages instead of internet downloading??? My conn is too slow to get them all.

Hi
Code:

export PKGDIR="/mnt/cdrom"

emerge --usepkg something (or even more --usepkgonly)

PORTAGE_BINHOST is for internet servers providing prebuild packages

cheers

Code:
man emerge

Code:
       --usepkg (-k)
Tells emerge to use binary packages (from $PKGDIR) if  they  are
available,  thus possibly avoiding some time-consuming compiles.
This  option  is  useful  for  CD  installs;  you   can   export
PKGDIR=/mnt/cdrom/packages  and  then  use  this  option to have
emerge "pull" binary packages from the CD in  order  to  satisfy
              dependencies.

or from right at the end of the installation docs

http://www.gentoo.org/doc/en/handbook/2005.1/handbook-x86.xml?part=1&chap=11

it says "for GRP users only" but GRP is just pre-compiled binaries (well security validated)
