after a what I thought was a successful install on reboot from my firewire drive the it will load all modules until the after the USB modules then this line appears:
XFS: bad magic number
XFS: SB validate failed
Kernel panic -not syncing: VFS unable to mount root fs on unknown block(1,0)

I used genkernel to compile my kernel and followed the ppc networkless handbook.

Any ideas on resolving this?

Thanks!

Am I right in thinking that genkernel compiled support for XFS filesystem? Does this mean that I will have to reinstall and manually compile the kernel?

Any help would be appreciated!

I never used genkernel, but I guess, it booted up until it has to mount the root-partition to run init and stuff and tries to mount a non-XFS-partition as XFS

I thought the kernel guesses the fs of the /, testing what it can use so I got no idea, if this kind of error is even possible ;)

did ya run a fschk.xfs from a livecd? maybe it's 'just' damaged...
