Hi!

I have this problem the second time i'm trying to install gentoo 2005.1 from stage1 w/ portage snapshot 2005.08.12:
I'm doing EVERYTHING the handbook tells to do, but the compilation STILL breaks, so it can't be my fault!

The error is:
gcc-config error: Could not run/locate "i386-pc-linux-gnu-gcc"
error: command 'i386-pc-linux-gnu-gcc' failed with exit status 1
!!! ERROR: dev-python/pyton-fchksum-1.7.1 failed
!!! Function src_compile, line 20, exitcode 1

you chose a wrong stage for your arch didn't you ? and then changed your make.conf?

Ther eis a known bug with python and its hard-coding of what GCC was used to compile python
https://bugs.gentoo.org/show_bug.cgi?id=88777

only way round for now is to re-compile python then carry on
