I'm trying to get splash working on my two Old World PPC boxes. On one, the Beige G3 desktop, splash tries to work, but there are problems. When it tries to run with the 'silent' switch, the progressbar along the bottom of the screen along with the icons and progress indicator appear, but they are all a red-ish/orange-ish color. The background image never displays and when progress is complete, the whole screen has a red-ish/orange-ish cast about it. When running in verbose mode, the background splash image never displays and the screen has that red-ish cast about it. I thought the monitor cable might be loose, but that's not the case.

The other problem occurs on my Beige G3 tower. I've only tested this in verbose mode, but the background splash image never appears. I see no errors during the boot process, but in the log, I see this message:
Code:

The filesystem mounted on / doesn't contain the /dev/tty1

What's up with that?
I used genkernel on both computers to build my kernel using this command line:
Code:

genkernel --kernel-config=/root/config/sage.config --gensplash=emergence all

and my BootX arguments are:

Code:

root=/dev/hda8 init=/linuxrc CONSOLE=/dev/tty1 quiet video=atyfb:1280x1024 vga=791 splash=verbose,theme:emergence CONSOLE=/dev/tty1

The only difference is that on my desktop, I'm trying to use the livecd-2005.1 theme and I've tried 'silent' mode on that box. They're both using the built in ATI video.
I've looked at the WIKI docs and they got me this far, splashutils are the latest ~ppc 1.1.9.8, so can someone help me out here? Both kernels are 2.6.12.
TIA

Try:
Code:
CONSOLE=/dev/vc/0

It's something that I read in another thread about fbsplash on PPC machines. It works perfectly on my Pegasos.
