Ok I'm going to attempt to install Gentoo again. Can someone please paste their yaboot.conf and a set of their instructions on configuring yaboot on an IBOOK G3 500 mhz. I tried to use the one provided in the guide but somehow I couldn't go over it.

i have an ibook 500 duel usb, probably similar to the one you have. heres most of my yaboot.conf

boot=/dev/hda9 #set this to what partition ybin is set to use (i think its an 800k partition after all the apple HDD drivers and before the data and swap partions
device=/pci@f2000000/mac-io@17/ata-4@1f000/disk@0:partition=11 #this is the open firmware way of showing where the hard drive is, it mght be different on yours, im not sure the exact OF command to find out
root=/dev/hda11 #your root partition
timeout=30 # this auto boots the default boot image, which i think is the first image in the list
install=/usr/lib/yaboot/yaboot #where yaboot was installed... i think...
magicboot=/usr/lib/yaboot/ofboot #where the actual bootloader is installed to

image=/boot/kernel #the location of the kernel you want to boot,
label=linux #this is what it will be listed as under yaboot, aka you type this label in at the yaboot promt

You would want to use your own /dev/hd* of course, since your drive might be set up differently then mine. there are other things you can add, but im not exactly sure what they all do yet. Also note that this is for single booting to just linux. yaboot can duel boot, i think you need something like macosx=/dev/hda2 in addition to the image=/boot/kernel. if this doesnt help ill post the actual thing. also try man yaboot, it should give you some good advice.
