this is not my first gentoo installation. But firt on a 64Bit system.
I burned the gentoo amd64 minimal cd 2005.1 (mdsum correct), booted form it, and went throuh the handbook step by step.
I have different partitions for: SWAP, / , /boot, /var, /opt, /usr, /lib , /tmp and /home
I mounted all like: /boot to /mnt/gentoo/boot (in the livecd-system)
(note: / has 1,5 GB space)
The next step ist to untar a stage-tar-ball. And here is the problem.
With stage1 & 2 (mdsum correct), it untars lots of files until "/sbin/telinit". Here tar ends with an errormessage, like: "tar exit with an error, caused from prevous error".
With stage3 (mdsum correct) nearly the same, but it did 3-4 more files (after /sbin/telinit), then same error as above.
Is the tar-ball or tar corrupt?
(And unfortunately I wasted my time at the first try because I ignored the errormessage, and continued with the handbook an got tons of errors later. So now I am going to start from beginning and I want no errors. Thats why I post.)
System is nForce4, just PATA, no SATA.
