Hiya

I'm trying to do a brand-new installation of the 2005.1 distribution. All goes well until I chroot to get started with emerging the kernel.

From that moment on my network-connectivity no longer supplies hostname-resolving. Pinging ip-adresses is still posible, both on the local network and the internet. Pinging hostnames isn't. As soon as I quit the chroot-session the resolving works just fine again.

I checked the outputs from ifconfig and route. Those are identical but for displaying hostnames in the route-output. Yes, I copied the resolve.conf to /mnt/gentoo/etc. It contains two lines: "nameserver 10.0.0.138" (my router) and "search lan". I also tried adding a line "domain lan" and (on top) lines with the dns-servers of my provider, which all didn't help.

Help, please?

WRONG!

It's /etc/resolv.conf (without the "e" after "v") NOT resolve.conf

It's resolv.conf, not resolve.conf (there's no e there). Check the permissions on /mnt/gentoo/etc/resolv.conf - the file must be readable by everyone.
Code:
chmod 0644 /mnt/gentoo/etc/resolv.conf
should fix it.

Moved from Installing Gentoo to Duplicate Threads in favour of resolve problems.
