Has anyone managed to emerge any of the OOo-1.9.xx series? The best I can do is 1.1.4-ximian. I'll post an error if I can ascertain that it's actually supposed to build ( but that means a couple of hours of compiling ... I've rebooted since my last attempt ).

What you want does not yet exist. There are no PPC binaries for OOo-1.9.xx. The previous poster who claimed that there were returned to retract his statement. However, I have an idea that just might work :)

Let it be known that the first person who manages to get PPC binaries for OOo-1.9.xx created and available somewhere, will be from the release date forth, known as the 'Master of the Known Universe'. If they manage to get it built with gcc-4.1, they will instead be called 'His Divine Sentience, the All-Powerful Master of the Known Universe'.

I await your binaries.

Actually, Fedora Core 4 PPC betas carry OpenOffice.org 1.9x in binary RPM format. For example, check here: ftp://ftp.linux.ncsu.edu/pub/fedora/linux/core/4/ppc/os/Fedora/RPMS/

The thing is... can anyone make this work on Gentoo?

I haven't tried yet. It's probably not too hard. The version they have is quite old though.

I'd rather get it actually compiling, and Fedora having PPC binaries is at least encouragement that it's possible.

I'm using a openoffice.org1.9.107_LinuxPPC_en-US tarball for ppc, but the page where I've downloaded it doesn't exist anymore. If I find a way and a place to upload the binary I'll advise you.

Best, Dario.

i allready tried to compile it with no success. The compile-process failed because of some problems with stlport.

Cross-compile?

You mean you're trying to compile it on a non-Linux-PPC machine?

Anyway, mine is failing in the stlport stuff as well, unfortunately. I swear I followed the instructions. Is this something that's crept in because we're using the ximianised ebuild, or is it in vanilla OOo-1.9.xx?

If they're using the STLPort version that shipped with OO.o 1.1.4, it needs a patch to build correctly. Unfortuantely, without actually seeing the error, I can't be sure, but try applying the STLport-vector patch in portage.

OpenOffice.org 2.0 is out now, with a Linux PPC binary. Maybe someone can add it to the portage tree? :D

Where do you see a 2.0 PPC binary release? The source release does build and work fine on PPC, it should be marked ~ppc for now.

I'll make one ... as soon as I clear out that 4-6GB the ebuild claims I need to build it.

Do you have the the USE flag "java" set? If yes, try with "-java".
