Hi,

I just went through the beautiful 2005.1 Gentoo install on my 17' powerbook and everything works beautifully, well, except the kernel compilation :(

I understand that I need to include PowerMac IDE modules (with DMA, etc..) in order to have my HD recognized by the system, but I am having no luck at all. When I compile the kernel without it, it succeeds, but of course at boot the kernel panics because it can't find the HD /dev/hdaX (X being my gentoo root partition)

I tried various kernels 2.6.12-r6, 2.6.12-r8, 2.6.12-r9, and even 2.6.9-r9... But as soon as I select the PowerMac IDE module it errors out on the compilation of that module...

Anyway, I wondered if anybody could post a valid 2.6.12-rX kernel config for the alu powerbooks just in case I am missing something. The only thing I haven't tried yet is to go the genkernel route, but I am not sure that it would change the problem.

Thanks!

Sébastien

Just got the problem solved. This thread just got the answer to my problem posted a few days ago:
https://forums.gentoo.org/viewtopic-t-370726.html

Basically the kernel config needs to have:
CONFIG_BLK_DEV_IDEDMA_PCI=y

Now I have my powerbook booting Gentoo!!

Cheers!
