Hello. I'm new to Gentoo, but not new to Linux. I'm attempting a Stage 1 install of Gentoo 2005.0 (I know it's slightly outdated, but it's what I had the CD for--didn't want to download it all again) with some success, but I seem to have hit a road block.

I ran into an error building gettext but fixed it using MAKEOPTS="-j1" instead of -j2. However, while building the system I am now getting an error building ncurses that I can't seem to get rid of.

Here's all the error output I can find:

Code:

make[1]: *** [..obj_s/cursesf.o] Error 127
make[1]: Leaving directory `/var/tmp/portage/ncurses-5.4-r6/work/narrowc/c++'
make: *** [all] Error 2

!!! ERROR: sys-libs/ncurses-5.4-r6 failed.
!!! Function do_compile, Line 86, Exitcode 2

I got this output trying -O3 -O2 -O1 and -O and with and without -pipe in CFLAGS

I'm compiling on a i686 PIII, so I tried both -march=i686 and -march=pentium3 (pentium3 has worked fine otherwise so far).

Each time, I've used
Code:
MAKEOPTS="-j1" emerge ncurses

I'm stumped, and I can't finish my installation until I get this built! Please help!

Searching often helps :).
Try
Code:
USE="build bootstrap" emerge --oneshot ncurses
If that doesn't fix it, try some of the solutions found in a lot of other threads, such as https://forums.gentoo.org/viewtopic-t-299349.html for example.
