I haven't had much luck with Linux lately. Fedora gave me severe problems, Ubuntu wouldn't install and now Gentoo gives up even before I can do anything with it.

While booting the live CD I get the following message:
>> Attempting to mount CD:- /dev/cdroms/cdrom0
And it does so with all my drives, it does nothing more than that but try again.

Now I found out that earlier, when all those kernel messages come by I see these two messages:
hdc: drive not ready for command
and
hdc: cdrom_pc_intr: The drive appears confused (ireason = 0x01)

Now I know that /dev/hdc is the cdrom I'm booting from, but I really have no idea why it won't work.
Someone has a sollution for me?

After searching the forums a bit more I found a similar topic and it covered my problem exactly.

https://forums.gentoo.org/viewtopic-t-358859.html

It had to do with this ICH6 stuff on my P4P800 motherboard and changing my IDE settings in the BIOS from enchanced mode to compatible mode solved my problem.
