I have installed my base stage3 system as a dual boot on my PowerBook using the LiveCD 2005.1 release. I'm now trying to install various apps starting with xorg-x11. I got an error relating to libpng so I tried re-emerging libtool (after reading another post).

This is the error that I am seeing when trying to emerge libpng
Code:

powerpc-unknown-linux-gnu-gcc: /usr/lib/libpng12.0.dylib: No such file or directory
powerpc-unknown-linux-gnu-gcc: 0.1.2.8: No such file or directory
powerpc-unknown-linux-gnu-gcc: 0.1.2.8: No such file or directory
powerpc-unknown-linux-gnu-gcc: unrecognized option `-current_version'
powerpc-unknown-linux-gnu-gcc: unrecognized option `-compatibility_version'
make: *** [libpng12.0.1.2.8.dylib] Error 1

!!! ERROR: media-libs/libpng-1.2.8 failed.

Any ideas?

What system are you installing this on? .dylib is an OSX extension, not a Linux one. If you could provide more of the build information and your make.conf, that would be helpful.

Why do you have the ppc-macos use flag enabled? That's the arch flag for Gentoo OSX and definitely shouldn't be in your use flags. Try turning that off and try again.

Thanks, I've taken it out, but not before I emerged the binary package. I confirmed this was the issue using emerge -B :-)
