First thing: I don't want to doublepost, but I put my problem first in the amd64 forum as I thought it was related to that, but now I'm not so sure anymore about that.
here you can read about it: https://forums.gentoo.org/viewtopic-t-374215-highlight-.html
But I doubt if is due to software or to hardware problems that I can't emerge gcc.
What I did more: I build again the kernel on the new system, didn't change any settings, builded fine, booted fine also.
Afterwards I could do this without any problems:
Code:
emerge linux-headers glibc binutils-config binutils gcc-config

even afterwards I was able to emerge gcc-3.3.5 also, I thougt that my problems were over but when I did:
Code:
emerge glibc binutils gcc
my pc again locked up during the gcc emerge
So after the reboot I tried to emerge this time gcc 3.4.4, but the pc locked up again, this time it was even worse: when I turned on the power, nothing happened,not even the POST beep, teid that a few times, then I disconnected the power completely and this time, after turning the power again on, it started again.
strange thing is that I already emerged two times glibc without any error (emerge of glibc takes about 52 minutes on this system), already did some other emerges like the gimp...., no problem, but everytime with gcc it goes wrong.
I have lmsensors and the cpu temperature is stable at 40°C.
I have a new videocard also PCI-X with an nvidia 6200 turbocache, temp is also her an 40°C.
I didn't overclock anything, checked the systemmonitor in BIOS: all values are normal;
As I said in the other thread: mobo is MS7125 (Neo4 F Platinum) with an AMD3500+ (venice core), with two CORSAIR memorymodules of 512Mb (bank 1 and 3) and an MSI 6200TC (32mb) videocard
If anyone has an idea?
I already ran memtest (only one cycle though): no errors

As a test today I tried to remerge kdelibs, this also did freeze the pc during the emerge.
To me this are symptoms of hardware errors, but I don't have a clue where to look at.
an strange that other packages emerge fine.

Try sys-apps/memtest86+.

I already did that (only one pass though, one of these days I ll let it it run for various passes)
What I intent to try also is as I have two memory modules of 512mb, to try with one module only and see if the error occurs then also , and if not to try the other one alone .

got it solved (at least I hope so)
After some googling I suspected problem with memory, although memtest didn't reveal any error.
Oncorsair forums I found out that voltage for corsair memory should be 2.7x, mine was 2.65; I changed that to 2.75 but that didn't help, however when I changed the CAS latency from 2.5 to 3, all my problems seemed have gone;
