Hello,

I installed KDE 3.4.1 (marked stable for ~x86) with just kdebase-startkde plus a few other KDE apps. Unfortunately, at the time I did not elect to emerge kdeadmin. Now that I try it, it tells me that it's being blocked by a number of rather important things...

Code:

that's because you installed the monolythic ebuild andnot the split build:

How to install the split ebuilds

The latest KDE release, as of this writing, is 3.4.1, recently marked stable. Both split and monolithic ebuilds for it are present in Portage.

* To emerge a particular package, such as kmail, simply emerge kmail.
* To emerge the basic KDE environment allowing you to login into a minimalistic KDE session, emerge kdebase-startkde.
* Finally, for the exact equivalent of one of the monolithic packages - for instance, to get all the applications included in kdebase using split ebuilds - you can emerge kdebase-meta (or kdepim-meta, etc.) To get absolutely all KDE split ebuilds, emerge kde-meta.

Isn't that what I did? So shouldn't that install the split ebuild?

As I thought it again, you probably tried to emerge kdeadmin (that's monolythic), try this:
emerge kdeadmin-meta

Moved from Portage & Programming to Duplicate Threads in favour of Blockers in KDE 3.4.1
