I am having problems bootstrapping my system.

I have tried doing this with my laptop booted in Knoppix. I am now trying to do it in a chroot environment with Suse on my laptop (I have to have my laptop working for my job).

Anyway, no matter what I have done, I can't get past the bootstrapping of texinfo.

I am using the stage1 install from: ftp://ftp.gtlib.cc.gatech.edu/pub/gentoo/releases/x86/current/stages/x86/stage1-x86-2005.1.tar.bz2

When the bootstrap gets to texinfo, I get this:
>>> emerge (2 of 9) sys-apps/texinfo-4.8 to /
>>> md5 files ;-) texinfo-4.8.ebuild
>>> md5 files ;-) texinfo-4.7-r1.ebuild
>>> md5 files ;-) files/texinfo-4.8-freebsd.patch
>>> md5 files ;-) files/digest-texinfo-4.7-r1
>>> md5 files ;-) files/digest-texinfo-4.8
>>> md5 files ;-) files/makeinfo.patch
>>> md5 files ;-) files/mkinfodir
>>> md5 src_uri ;-) texinfo-4.8.tar.bz2
>>> Unpacking source...
>>> Unpacking texinfo-4.8.tar.bz2 to /var/tmp/portage/texinfo-4.8/work
* Applying texinfo-4.8-freebsd.patch ... [ ok ]
>>> Source unpacked.

Hi.

Take a look here. It should help you solve the problem.

Moved from Installing Gentoo to Duplicate Threads in favour of the FAQ jmbsvicetto linked above.
