I'm setting up a dual-boot OSX/gentoo machine and have set aside a large partition for sharing files between the two. I will use both OS's to r/w the partition and the data will be quite important to me. Which is more stable, hfs support for linux or ext support for OSX? I don't care much about performance (though if you've got some numbers, I'd like to see them) my biggest concern is data integrity.

I've never had a problem with either, but there isn't an ext2/3 module for Tiger yet as far as I know. Make sure that your user has the same UID for each OS and everything should be fine.

I'd go with hfs+ support for linux based on personal experience.

If you hard shutdown OSX with an ext2/3 drive mounted (10.2 and 10.3 experience only), it takes a looong time to boot the next time. I haven't actually had anything corrupted, but the process is more than slightly annoying.

I've never had any data loss problems with hfs+ under linux, but I only mount it when I need to transfer files, not when I'm goofing off, trying new things with the system.
