kdebase-3.4.1.tbz2 MISSING FROM PACKAGE CD. ACCIDENT OR DESIGN?

Having such an important KDE package missing from the Gentoo (pre-compiled) package CD is a very large oversight.

When
emerge --usepkg kde cannot find the kdebase-3.4.1.tbz2 package it tries to download the source packages:

pcre-5.0.tar.bz2 -- 456 KB
libidn-0.5.15.tar.gz -- 1,930 KB
kdebase-3.4.1.tar.bz2 -- 21,936 KB

This it does, however, when it attempts the compilation it dies (at least for i686).

On the Gentoo 2005 package CD its equivalent was called kdebase-3.3.2-r1.tbz2 -- 23MB.

Do you think that the CD package producers put together a sloppy package CD, or do they just dislike KDE?

Discuss it at: http://www.chapelhill.indymedia.org/news/2005/09/16189.php (provided as a courtesy for those who don't have an email and cannot register).

For some reason the weird people who run this forum are threatening to ban their own users (crazy people).

I like Gentoo, but have almost no respect for the people who run this forum.

The following solution was given, before the forum idiots deleted or moved the thread.

mount /cd
export PKGDIR=/cd
emerge --usepkg kde-meta

It works.

Why are you not letting everone know about this KDE "problem"?

After all, it would be of interest to the majority of your users.

Why you are all so secretive about this?

Secretive to the extent of deleting and moving post to dark corners where they will not be read.

You folk are enough to have everyone believing in conspiracies.

I am thinking of writing a script to help new Gentoo users like myself to navigate through the install process.

Hopefully I will get to it over the weekend.

I will publish the beginnings of it at http://www.chapelhill.indymedia.org/news/2005/09/16189.php and on https://forums.gentoo.org

Should be just a matter of reentering the commands one gave to get through the install. It will be rough but should work.

Probably will need 3 separate scripts: One up till the change root. One from there to the reboot. And one to get the desktops up and running.

Moved from Installing Gentoo to Duplicate Threads. You've been told before problems with KDE and the 2005.1 GRP release should be posted to this topic. You're heading towards a ban with this behaviour.
