Hi.

I've just done my first PPC install on my new Ibook (from after the
july-speedbump: 1.4ghz, radeon 9550, 512meg).
But after installing yaboot.... and rebooting this happens:

First soms grey screen with an icon appears. The icon looks like a globe.
Then the icon changes into OS X icon , and a blinking question mark.

After about 5 (?) minutes I get a nice console-like screen. The yaboot
console I think.

It says:
Code:

Welcome to yaboot version 1.3.13
Enter help <etc>
boot: Linux
Please wait loading kernel
    Elf32 kernel loaded...
chrpboot starting: loaded at 0x00800000
gunzipping (0x00010000 <- 0x00806c88:0x0096dfc8)...
Invalid memory address at  (weird character,looks like character on Apple-key)SRR0:  0080509fc (weird char again)SSR1: 00003030

Apple PowerBook6,7 4.9.3f0 BooROM built on 7/7/05
<et cetera>

What's going wrong here?
I don't now the PPC architecture at all (ok, got 2 weeks OS X experience on that box).

Thanks,

Does anyone got a clue?

Is it a kernel misconfiguration?
Or is it some problem with yaboot itself?

you know how to chroot into your system again? if so, please post your relevant kernel config regarding framebuffer and your yaboot.conf. also, how close did you follow the manual?

edit: to give you a chance to compare. on my iBook G4 1GHz those options work
Code:
CONFIG_FB=y
CONFIG_FB_CFB_FILLRECT=y
CONFIG_FB_CFB_COPYAREA=y
CONFIG_FB_CFB_IMAGEBLIT=y
CONFIG_FB_SOFT_CURSOR=y
CONFIG_FB_MACMODES=y
CONFIG_FB_MODE_HELPERS=y
CONFIG_FB_OF=y
CONFIG_FB_RADEON=y
CONFIG_FB_RADEON_I2C=y

#
# Console display driver support
#
CONFIG_VGA_CONSOLE=y
CONFIG_DUMMY_CONSOLE=y
CONFIG_FRAMEBUFFER_CONSOLE=y
CONFIG_FONT_8x8=y
CONFIG_FONT_8x16=y

#
# Logo configuration
#
CONFIG_BACKLIGHT_LCD_SUPPORT=y
CONFIG_BACKLIGHT_CLASS_DEVICE=m
CONFIG_BACKLIGHT_DEVICE=y
CONFIG_LCD_CLASS_DEVICE=m
CONFIG_LCD_DEVICE=y

on 2.6.12-ck1.

Please also post your disc layout to compare to your yaboot.conf.

of course I know how to chroot again.
Problem is I can't...

I have got an extra partition, and wanted to put OS X on it this morning.
After inserting the dvd's and running the installer, I found out OS X had wiped all of my gentoo data too .... (very funny when having waited about 25 hours for a stage1 install, including xorg and kde).

So I'm reinstalling gentoo again, and I'll post back if it happens again.

then i'd recomment a stage 2 install, because the efford of stage 1 is minimal. also just set up a base system and then get this to work.
