|I've been running a mixed x86/~x86 system for some time now, and my /etc/portage/package.keywords was getting full of junk that i'd upgraded then hardly every used (like the latest KDE for example). I deleted most of them entries in there & was left with emerge wanting to downgrade a whole bunch of stuff, I figured rather than recompile the old ones I'd just wait until they were in x86.
So to make this a little easier, I have written a few small scripts to help step through just installing new apps & keeping the old ones installed until everything I wanted was back on the X86 version.
They make use of a few extra apps (eix schedtool dispatch-conf vim) as well as just emerge, but the scripts themselves are no more then the steps i was taking over & over again.
Firstly I have /usr/local/sbin/emerge-only-update to update emerge & eix. This is used in /usr/local/sbin/emerge-dont-downgrade to walk through the steps.
You'll need to move the files & give the correct owner/permissions.
If anyone who actually knows some bash scripting wants to play with them to automate it a little more, feel free
