I changed my optical drive to a plextor 712 sata dvd-rw drive, and can't boot the livecd anymore. I starts booting, but then halts at:

Code:

Determining root device...
The root block device is unspecified or not detected.
Please specify a device to boot, or "shell" for a shell...
boot() ::

Don't really understand what's wrong. Obviously this works to an extent as it does start booting from the cd. The drive works just fine under windows so it should not be due to motherboard compatibility.

Optical SATA drives - like your DVD - are still an little problem in linux. :oops: Some chipsets and drives are already supported; but only some. The blockdevice support of SATA drives is enhanced continuously and nearly every kernelbuild has some more supported devices / cipsets. :) But your mentioned live-CD won't work with it - perhaps another, more advanced version will do. :roll:

Bye

Thanks, I guess I'll try 2005.1 when I have the time...

Or does anyone know about 2005.2 coming out anytime soon?

There will be no 2005.2 , the next release is 2006.0 which is probably at least 4 - 6 months away.
