Hi,
in about two weeks I'll receive my new laptop with a centrino Sonoma architecture and I will install Gentoo on it but I'm still (even it isn't the first time I ask about this thing) quite confused about the -march flag.. Should I set it to pentium3 or pentium-m?

Thank you for every explaination..

Any of pentium3, pentium3m or pentium-m should work fine. Still, the recommended -march value for centrinos is -march=pentium-m.

EDIT: from the gcc man page:

Code:

          pentium3, pentium3m
Intel Pentium3 CPU based on PentiumPro core with MMX and SSE
               instruction set support.

           pentium-m
Low power version of Intel Pentium3 CPU with MMX, SSE and SSE2
instruction set support.  Used by Centrino notebooks.

Hi.

This is a common question in this forum!
If you use GCC-3.3 you must use -march=pentium3, if you use GCC-3.4 you can use -march=pentium-m.
