Anyone successfully patched latest gentoo sources with latest reiser4 ? I'm currently using the CKO patchset, I haven't tried patching gentoo sources.. but a friend of mine tried, and he couldn't do it. Also interested in knowing if anyone managed to patch latest vanilla sources with reiser4 and vesafb-tng.

Thanks.

Hi,
I assume you want to vanilla-patch for reiser4 AND bootsplash?
It isn't that hard.

Download patches for reiser4 from namesys.com. These are usually in gz format.

Untar your vanilla sources:
tar -xvjpf linux-2.6.13.tar.bz2 -C /usr/src && ln -s /usr/src/linux-2.6.13 /usr/src/linux
cd /usr/src/linux
zcat reiser4-patch.gz | patch -p1

Download the vesafb-tng patch from spock's website and apply that in a similar manner:
patch -p1 < /patch-to-patch

Configure your kernel, compile it, and off you go. I have skipped many steps, 'cause I'm assuming you already know the basics of compiling your kernel and enabling reiser4. (Disable kernel debugging)

This suddenly became a lot easier than I had thought.. :oops: Up until now I had just used the CKO patchset, but it's a bit overkill for my needs. Well, thank you for the nice directions. :)

EDIT: Well, it wasn't as easy as all that. The make build failed. Oh well.

The following is the output given:
