hi,

I have gentoo on 2 of my home PC's now... But now i got a more or less old laptop.
I don't want to let it compile for too many hours, so im thinking bout what's the best distro.

I know there is a possibility to let my desktops compile the packages for the laptop. But isn't there Gentoo with binaries? Like - binary servers for portage ?

Or is there a similar project/distro that does something like "Gentoo for precompiled packages" :?:

You could use quickpkg (part of portage) to bundle up any / all of the programs on your installed system into binary packages. Then install these packages on your laptop. This is assuming that the CFLAGS your newer systems use are compatible with your laptop. For example, if you set -march=pentium4 for the newer system, you won't be able to install via quickpkg packages if your laptop is only a Pentium 3.

Project chinstrap is what you want. Caveat: Although there is a Gentoo developer participating in this project, it is completely unofficial and unsupported by gentoo proper.
