Hi everyone. :)

I have a PowerBook G3 FireWire(400Mhz), with kernel 2.6.12, and I was looking at one of the CPU scaling utils. Would they work on my PowerBook, I don't want to fry anything. Thanks. :D

I'm not an apple HW expert, but If your laptop support the cpu frequency scaling, you have only to merce cpufreqd and configure it :-)

Unfortunally, CPU frequency scaling isn't possible on PowerPC G3. Due to the hardware, not the kernel.

So I think the only thing you can do to economize your battery duration is stop the hard disk and put the screen light down... take a look to pbbuttons.

Why not? My G3 iBook is able to with cpufreqd. from 400Mhz to 600 Mhz, two steps.

However, afaik your cpu does not support voltage scaling, so your power saving would be smaller than you expected.
I think that another discomport is that the mouse point shrinks back whenever the frequency changes.
This problem may be caused from the long transition latency, which is the feature of the cpu.

I see, you have quite the same iBook. But I don't notice the frequency changes, mouse pointer doesn't shrink.
