I just got an PowerMac 4400/200 48MBram, 50MB hdd. Which is the latest GentooPPC which support G2--603ev ? I have some experience on APUS/Linux on powerAmiga G2/175. Thanks

That machine is not going to able to run gentoo. If you look at the hardware requirements you are sooo underpowered that you have no hope.

Try debian instead.

Despite what the last poster says. since the Mac is PCI based, it should run with Gentoo. One problem with these machines is that they are sometimes hard to boot. The Gentoo 1.4 release should defintely boot this machine you would then use a 2005.1 stage to actually complete the install. Newer releases may or may not work, Old World support is unofficial in the latest releases and doesn't work on all Old World Macs.

As a side note, depending on the ammount of memory and hard disk space you've got in the machine, compilation may take extremely long periods of time. Our default initrd requires 32Mb of ram for the ramdisk alone, leaving you with only 16Mb for compilation during the install. If you could upgrade the ram to at least 64Mb, it would run a little better.
