if you have low quality internet connection and wget often stops downloading due to few lost packets or temporrary connection lost you have to wait 900 seconds for resume. it's way too long. but it's gentoo, so it can be changed :))

add those two lines to your /etc/make.conf
Code:

FETCHCOMMAND="/usr/bin/wget -t 5 -T 10 --passive-ftp -P \${DISTDIR} \${URI}"
RESUMECOMMAND="/usr/bin/wget -c -t 5 -T 10 --passive-ftp -P \${DISTDIR} \${URI}"

according to 'man wget' -T parameter stands for 'timeout'. now if download will 'hang' it will be resumed after 10 seconds.

there's more:

FETCHCOMMAND and RESUMECOMMAND are two variables that simply keep command line for download manager (default wget). you can easily change wget to something more sophisticated, like prozilla, and download simulatenously from multiple sources.
