Hi,

I just found out that Gentoo is one of the most disk space consuming ditributions. I have a laptop installation and created 5GB partition for / , 10 GB for /home. / partition is full - mostly with /usr - 2,1GB and /var - 1,6GB

This is so amazing since I've never had any distro exceeding 3GB total (it's my first installationof G) and my poor old Win XP takes around 3-4 GB with all aplications installed (office, acad, lots of different stuff)

Is there any chance to delete something because there's not much space left on my HDD

Cheers
Wojtek

You can clear the contents of /var/tmp/portage (working directories for compilation) and /usr/portage/distfiles (downloaded source code)

Yes, building form source takes more space. Deal with it, or use a non-source-based distribution.

Thanks for the replay, I'll look how much I can save on this.

Any other sugestions ?
5GB is a little bit too much (I still don't have openoffice - just pure system with X and KDE)

You cheated by turning on compression for your whole drive, right?

Even with compression on for my entire windows drive, Windows still eats up 7.14GB of my 60GB.
