Is Gentoo or Linux in general good for the 'creative professional'. I'm not saying that I'm a master artist. My interest in linux has increased from the fact that Maya (i think), Lightwave 3d, and Apple's Shake is available on linux.

I suppose I could consider myself a creative director of sorts. But I'm tired of windows and linux seems to be the most affordable way to try something differnet. As a graphic artist, video editor, and music producer I use a lot of windows software, most which works together really well (adobe products integrate features and options within almost all their programs)

stuff like... Adobe - Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, Premiere Pro, After Effects. are the main tools I use for creating grahpics and doing video stuff. As far as I know, there is nothing on linux that can compare to the effectiveness of all these programs together as one.

and for audio I use Propellerhead Reason, FL Studio 5, and Cubase SE, along with a ton of VST virtual instruments.

Considering my requirements in software and OS usage, Is considering Linux as an operating system platform a bad choice for someone like me who requires full support of these programs? I plan on learning some web programming son, picking between asp.net with vb.net, or php. I'll probably do the php thing though.

I have no clue what I've written about. But I'm distressed by the fact that a lot of these programs I actively use aren't available on linux, while Apple OSX has almost everything and more that I would need. Where is the multimedia/creative support in linux asides from playback of existing content. I know there's the Gimp. I don't believe it has the vector tools/support comparible of Illustrator.

I'm sure if there's anyone to blame for things not happening on linux, it would have to be the software manufacturers. But I haven't found much support or embracement in the Linux community except for programmers and primarily tech/dev folk.
